The legendary Top Field, situated between Fishponds Road (A505) and Bedford Road (A600) is home to the venerable Hitchin Town FC. Hitchin is one of my favourite towns to go shopping in. It’s not too big yet not too small, and has a great selection of both chain and independent retail stores, as well as plenty of places to eat and drink. It’s also one of the more picturesque towns in the area, having retained its original cobbled market square and many period buildings. Continue reading
Shefford may be a small market town in Mid Bedfordshire with a population of only five and a half thousand, but it is host to a couple of taxi companies. While this is probably due to the lack of decent public transport services in the area – the railway line between Bedford and Hitchin has long gone, and the current bus services are sporadic in both destinations and running times – for most journeys, private hire is the only way to go if you want to get in or out of town.
